Great Gift for anyone in a colder climate July 7, 2008 A. Oberkrieser (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this floor mat for my dad last Christmas. Initially we anticipated its use in the garage where he works on the snow mobile. But it actually found a home in his office, which has a cement floor. Since his office is attached to a factory, there is no below-ground level, and that means that all winter cold temperatures are channeled up from the floor. Regardless of the shoes he wears, he still deals with cold feet and legs. Anyway, I've heard only good things about it since he took it into the office, and everyone else who works with him has asked about it.
Great for the office December 2, 2009 David Meister (Pa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used this item under my desk all last season instead of a typical space heater. I am an energy conscious person and I knew that most small space heaters start at around 1000 watts. They blow hot air which promptly rises to the top of the room. Ironic since most people are complaining about their cold feet. Because this item only draws 90-120 watts, it can very safely be run through a timer. This allows you to have it automatically turn on just before you arrive at the office and turn off when you leave in the evening. There is an odor associated when you first begin using it but it does fade in time to be almost un-noticeable.
Works great in bedroom February 18, 2009 Circuit Breaker (St. Paul, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well - you're not supposed to do what I've done, but I put this mat under a braided rug on my wife's side of the bed. This is over an unheated (but insulated) crawl space. It has always been a 'cold spot' for her. Since the heater is temp-regulated, I don't see where I can get in trouble with this - a rubber-backed rug may be another matter.
She reports that now she can sit on that side of the bed and brush her hair. I have the thing on a timer coming on in the evening, and then morning. I can tell that it helps warm the room as well.
There is that 'rubbery' smell that I don't really find so bad (neither does my wife, and she's pretty smell-sensitive). that should wear off with time.
All in all - very satisfied, and a great price.
foot warmer mat January 7, 2010 Guy A. Winohradsky 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I actually purchased it to warm the house for my two dogs. Their house is inside my garage, but it is unheated and gets cold here in michigan, so I wanted something to heat a little. When I got the pad I tried it in my family room on the carpet to make sure it did not get too hot, and it got to about 130 deg. It is a large house, kind of a duplex, with each dog having a seperate but adjacent area. The frame is 2x4 so there is a 3 1/2 inch space below the house, and I put the pad in that space so it heats the floor of the house but the dogs can't get at it. It works great. When the outside temp was 30 I measured floor temp above the pad of 70. The air inside the house is not hot, but noticable warmer. The dogs love it.
Ahhh, warm feet! Almost perfect... needs an on/off switch February 1, 2010 Edwin E. Smith (Chantilly, VA United States) I was always cold in my office. Even with a space heater, I'd always be cold. I realized it was that my feet and lower legs were cold because the cold air comes up from the cement slab through the thin carpet. It would just make me cold to the core.
The heating pad is great. The bad smell problem others reported when first turning theirs on wasn't evident with mine after more than the initial 15 minutes.
The only thing that I wish they had was an on/off switch or even a timer. I need to unplug mine from the wall. I've left it on overnight on several occasions. It doesn't cause any issues... it just wastes energy.
